German Blue Rams are colourful South American dwarf cichlids prized for their vibrant blue, yellow, orange, and red colouration and engaging personalities. Despite their small size, they display fascinating territorial and breeding behaviours and can become a striking feature of a peaceful community aquarium. They are best suited to established aquariums with stable, warm, clean water and good water quality.

German Blue Rams are relatively sensitive compared with many other community fish. They require consistently warm, clean water and do best in mature, stable aquariums. Sudden changes in water parameters, poor water quality, or prolonged stress can affect their health.

Primary Diet: High-quality sinking pellets or granules suitable for small cichlids
Variety: Frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia can be offered regularly as part of a varied diet
Flexible Options: German Blue Rams will readily accept quality prepared foods once settled into the aquarium
Feeding Frequency: Small portions once or twice daily, with only enough food provided to be consumed promptly

Compatibility
Tank Mates: Peaceful, similarly sized community fish that appreciate warm tropical water, as well as peaceful bottom-dwelling species
Avoid: Large, aggressive, highly territorial, or fin-nipping fish. Species requiring significantly cooler water are also unsuitable tank mates

Behaviour and Activity
German Blue Rams are active and inquisitive fish that often learn to recognise their keeper and investigate activity outside the aquarium. When kept as a compatible pair, they may establish a territory and display courtship, spawning, and parental behaviours.

Special Requirements or Considerations
German Blue Rams are more sensitive to poor water quality and unstable conditions than many common community fish. A mature, fully cycled aquarium with consistent water parameters is strongly recommended. Regular maintenance and excellent filtration are important, and sudden temperature or water chemistry changes should be avoided.

Their preference for warmer water should also be considered when selecting tank mates. When introducing new fish, gradual acclimation is recommended to minimise stress.
